5 Things You Can Bring to Inpatient Addiction Rehab Centers

by | Jan 5, 2023

Addiction can be a challenging and isolating struggle, but it is important to remember that you are not alone. If you are seeking addiction treatment in Louisville, Kentucky, there is hope.

Deciding to go to rehab is a huge step in the right direction. It shows you’ve accepted you have an issue with addiction and are ready to get help to turn your life around. The next big step after choosing the right rehab for addiction treatment is getting admitted to an inpatient program.

This means you’ll spend your time 24/7 at the rehab facility for the duration of your treatment. You’ll live at the treatment facility and interact with others undergoing the same.

To make your stay at the inpatient addiction rehab center comfortable, here are 5 things you can bring with you:

Important documents

Bring with you any important documents you usually need. This may include some form of identification such as your driver’s license or state-issued ID. You may also carry your health insurance card for the rehab’s records as well as a prescription card for any medication you’re taking.

Seasonal clothing

You’ll need to pack enough clothing for a week to 10 days. This includes gym or exercise clothes and shoes as well as clothes that are easy to layer according to the weather. Most places will allow you to bring jewelry you use every day such as a wedding ring but leave any valuable pieces at home.

Medication

If you’re taking any medication, carry the doctor’s prescription with you and retain the medicine in its original packaging. It’s also a good idea to confirm with the rehab facility if your medicines are allowed on the premises.

Toiletries and hygiene products

Most rehab centers prefer clients to carry new or unopened toiletries and hygiene products. Only pack the basic items you need such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, a hair brush, shampoo, conditioner, and basic makeup. Items containing alcohol e.g. mouthwash or nail polish remover will usually not be allowed by most facilities so avoid those.

Journals or books

While most of your time will be spent in treatment, you’ll still have some free time to yourself. This is a great time to keep a journal about your recovery journey or to unwind with books and novels, in addition to other recreational facilities at the treatment center.
